Pasta is nutritious and low in fat: it is a good source of carbohydrates. Pasta is considered to be a high-energy food, so athletes before performing usually eat a lot of pasta to help build a reserve of energy. Pasta is also high in protein and B vitamins. You will find below a small collection of pasta recipes that are easy to prepare and are tasty and nutritious.

PASTA SHELLS WITH BROCCOLI

You will need:

1 bunch fresh broccoli, cut into chunks

8 ounces small pasta shells

3 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup olive oil

2 cloves garlic, peeled

Salt and pepper to season

Directions:

1. Cook broccoli in boiling water until crisp-tender, about 10 minutes; drain.

2. Cook pasta in boiling, salted water following directions on box, and then strain.

3. Heat butter and olive oil in large frying pan. Add broccoli and garlic; saute for four to five minutes, stirring constantly. Add pasta, salt and pepper. Toss well, and serve with meal.

HUNGARIAN NOODLES AND CABBAGE

You will need:

3 tablespoons butter

3 cups shredded white cabbage

1 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to season

8 ounces broad egg noodles

Directions:

1. Melt butter in heavy skillet. Add cabbage, sugar, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until lightly browned.

2. Cook the noodles in boiling, salted water until tender, Drain excess water.

3. Combine noodles and cabbage mixture and mix well, and serve with meal.
