Saute 1 1/2 c chopped onion in 1 tbsp shortening. Add 2 cups fresh tomatoes and 1 4-oz can green chili peppers (chopped). Add 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. Simmer until well blended. All 1 lb grated American cheese. Heat only until cheese melts. Serve with corn chips. Freezes well. Can add hot jalapeno peppers in addition. Makes 1 quart.
