BIOGRAPHY

Leslie Charteris, mystery writer, was born in Singapore to Dr. S.C. Yin and Florence Bowyer. His original name was Leslie Charles Bowyer Yin. He was educated at Cambridge University where he studied law. However, he left school without a degree to pursue his writing career. In addition to writing novels he wrote for some time the comic strip "Secret Agent X-9" and later "Saint." He also edited SUSPENSE MAGAZINE and THE SAINT DETECTIVE MAGAZINE.

Charteris published his first book, X ESQUIRE, when he was 20. His second book, MEET THE TIGER, introduced the character Simon Templar. This character reappeared in several subsequent novels which comprised the Saint series.

Leslie Charteris died in 1993.
